PSE&G began the work in September as part of the utility’s Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP).
As part of the GSMP infrastructure program, crews repaired the gas main on South Orange Ave. by Seton Hall University, and they replaced the mains and services on Turrell Ave. and South Centre St. The aging pipes were replaced with strong, durable plastic which is much less likely to have leaks and release methane gas. The new elevated pressure systems also enable the installation of excess flow valves that dramatically reduce gas flow if a service line is damaged, and provide better support for the use of high-efficiency appliances.
Restoration of the roads with permanent pavement will take place in Spring 2018. PSE&G appreciates the Village’s support during the construction and restoration process.
