The Rules of Snow Removal

With the recent snow activity, the Township of South Orange reminds residents and businesses that all snow removal is the responsibility of the property’s owner or tenant (s).  This includes the sidewalk adjoining the property.

All snow or ice from residential properties must be removed within 12 hours of daylight after the end of snowfall to avoid a summons.  All snow or ice from commercial properties must be removed within four hours of daylight after snowfall or by noon, whichever is later.

When removing snow, property owner and tenants are reminded that no snow or ice is to be put in a public street.  In addition, no snow or ice can be put onto adjoining properties.

Any questions regarding snow removal can be directed to Code Enforcement at 973-378-7715 x 7704.
