HISTORY AND MISSION
The South Orange Parking Authority was created in 1979 by means of an ordinance passed pursuant to the New Jersey Parking Authority Act of 1948. The Authority is an autonomous agency whose Commissioners are working in conjunction with the Village President and members of the Board of Trustees for the on-going improvement of all parking facilities.
The Parking Authority administers an agency that is responsible for the enforcement of parking ordinances and operation of all the municipal parking lots, train station lots, all metered spaces, overnight on-street parking, residential parking programs, commuter jitney buses and senior bus services. The Authority is self-sufficient with all revenues derived from permits, meters and management fees, not from tax dollars or ticket revenue.
Commissioners of the Parking Authority are appointed by the Board of Trustees for an initial period of five years and are eligible for unlimited re-appointment. The Parking Authority Board of Commissioners meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:15pm in Village Hall, unless otherwise advertised.
