THE SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM
The Summer Playground Program is a half-day, seven week day camp sponsored by the South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs. The program is for children from 4 years of age (by October 1st) through 8 th grade (in September). Groups are separated by age/grade and meet each day at designated park/playground areas throughout South Orange. The Playground program for children in Kindergarten through Grade 8 is outdoors and, therefore, held weather-permitting (see "Inclement Weather"). The Kiddie Camp program for 4 year-old children is held rain-or-shine.

The Summer Playground Program provides a variety of planned, age-appropriate activities each day which are facilitated and supervised by our camp counselors. A typical day at camp will include activities to stimulate the body and mind. Camp counselors will organize (and teach, when necessary) age-appropriate board games and athletic activities. All campers will go to the Community Pool twice a week and have a barbecue. There will be art and music, tennis and a talent show, Movie Day and ice cream, field trips and treasure hunts. Although activities are planned for each day, the children are also allowed time and flexibility to relax in the summer sunshine or play a favorite game.

WHEN AND WHERE
The Summer Playground Program is held, weather permitting, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-1:00 pm. The children are separated by age/grade at the following park/ playground sites:

*Children registered at these sites are dropped off in the Meadowland Park/Cameron Field area on pool days (Tuesdays and Thursdays for Memorial Park campers and Mondays and Fridays for Farrell Field and Grove Park campers).

REGISTRATION

The Summer Playground Program is reserved for South Orange residents.  Residents must present the child’s current Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs Photo ID Badge with their application.  ID Badges can be obtained or updated at The Baird for an annual fee of $20.00.

Applications for the Summer Playground Program are accepted beginning March 1st . The initial registration period is March 1-15.   If the number of applications exceeds the enrollment limit for any of the individual sites on March 15th, a random drawing will be held to determine in which order children will be enrolled.  After March 15th, applications are accepted on a space-available basis. EARLY REGISTRATION IS ENCOURAGED.
