Essex County is an area rich in diverse artistic talent. With this sixth biennial Essex Exposed, PGOSO affirms its commitment to visual artists in the area and celebrates the county in which they live or work.

This highly anticipated biennial exhibition was open to all visual artists over 18 years of age who live or work in Essex County . Applications were received from artists in over 12 towns in Essex County in all fine arts mediums, genres and styles.

The juror for the 2009 exhibition is Patterson Sims, a sought after freelance curator, writer, and lecturer, who has been active in the visual arts field since 1969. Past positions include: Director, Montclair Art Museum (2001-2008); Deputy Director for Research Support, The Museum of Modern Art, NYC; Associate Director for Art and Exhibitions/Curator of Modern Art, Seattle Art Museum ; Associate Director for Art and Exhibitions/ Curator of Modern Art, O.K. Harris Gallery , NYC. Mr. Sims is on the boards of several arts and community-related organizations in New York , Seattle , Washington , D.C. and New Jersey . Sims is also active on various non-profit and art Boards throughout New Jersey , Washington , DC and Seattle .
