Greetings to all South Orange residents. You have made a great choice in selecting the Township of South Orange Village as your domicile.

The motto of the South Orange Fire Department is "We are here to serve and protect you."

Fire Prevention and Fire Inspections

This is the core of a sound Fire Department. The goal of the South Orange Fire Force is to strive to reduce and completely eliminate fire/emergency matters. Strong efforts to achieve this goal are made through educational programs and through inspections conducted by the Fire Prevention Bureau.

Fire Force Training & Preparedness

This is also essential in protecting the residents of South Orange. Without proper training and continuous reenforcement of that training, a fire fighter will not be prepared for the ultimate battle against the unmerciful enemy - fire. As mandated by both Federal and State Law, all fire fighters must be certified in basic fire fighting training and must also be certified in hazardous material training.

Non-emergency Services

In addition to providing fire and emergency services, the Fire Department has the following programs that are available upon request:

Smoke Detector Program

1. One (1) free detector to qualified senior citizens.

2. One (1) free detector to any indigent residents.

3. Smoke detector batteries are changed upon request.

Additional smoke detectors will be designated where required.

4. Smoke detectors supplied by residents will be installed free of charge

upon request.

Confidential Handicap File

Any member of a family who is handicapped and is reported as such to the South Orange Fire Force will be entered into our Confidential Handicap File. This information is made available only to the South Orange Police and Rescue Squads.

"EDITH" (Exit Drills In The Home)

We will help plan escape routes, two ways out, where possible. We will assist in determining smoke detector, carbon monoxide locations and fire extinguisher locations.

Fire Safety Programs

Fire Safety Programs are available for group meetings, including evening hours. All requests must be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
