Arts & Cultural Affairs

The South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs strengthens and supports the local arts community and provides a variety of cultural and social activities for all citizens and visitors to South Orange. Cultural Affairs programming  celebrates and presents the professional accomplishments of local and regional artists through art exhibitions, classes, art talks, performances, and festivals ensuring public access to the arts and adding richness and depth to life in South Orange.

The South Orange Arts Advisory Committee

The South Orange Arts Advisory Committee is a group that advises the Department and liaises with the community and the Village Board of Trustees. It fosters creativity and excellence in the arts to enrich the quality of life for residents, the business community, and visitors to South Orange. It recognizes the special nature of the arts community as fundamental to the identity of South Orange and promotes the town as a home to artists and as a cultural destination for the region.

The committee works on both short and long range planning regarding the arts in South Orange- It is a place for big picture thinking as well as advice on more practical matters. The committee takes on projects as needed.

The town is looking for committee members who are interested in the purpose of the committee and who represent the following interests:

Artists/ Fine and Design
Arts Professionals and Creative Professionals
Active Arts Volunteers
Art Lovers
Business and Community Leaders
Art Educators
