Village Trustee Olivia Lewis-Chang

Olivia Lewis-Chang is a 26-year resident of South Orange and has been passionate about community building, the environment and mental health for many years. She served previously as a commissioner on the South Orange Environmental Commission and as an active member of the Tree Committee. In 2011, she helped lead the establishment of the South Orange Community Garden and now serves as the Garden’s Chair. A longtime community activist, Olivia Lewis-Chang was a Master Plan Ambassador in 2019, where she facilitated meetings within her neighborhood to help frame the future of South Orange.  Olivia also served on the first Irvington Avenue Advisory Committee, which was responsible for rebranding and the naming of her neighborhood as Seton Village. In 2021, she was elected as the Democratic District Leader for District 11.

Professionally, Olivia Lewis-Chang, PhD. is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice. She graduated from Rutgers University with College Honors and from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University with a concentration in clinical child and family psychology. She has served as clinical supervisor, mentor and adjunct professor at local hospitals and universities. She partnered with another psychologist, developed and coauthored  non-pharmacological pain management for children  with HIV/AIDS  in the 1990s.  

Olivia Lewis-Chang serves as the Chair of the Village’s Health and Public Safety Committee and as a member of Planning and Economic Development, as well as Public Works and Utilities. Olivia will also serve as liaison to the Community Coalition on Race, Environmental Commission as well as Board of Education Liaisons.

Olivia’s love for the environment is evident in her commitment to learning about horticulture and our changing climate and environment. She has been certified as a master gardener and is currently completing certification as an environmental steward through Rutgers University. As a trustee, Olivia is focused on our green infrastructure and educating the next generation of environmentally-conscious citizens. Olivia is the creator of Bloom Seton Village, an ongoing project to decrease our carbon footprint and beautify the Seton Village neighborhood. She sees the connection of environment and mental health as intricately interwoven with our existence on our planet.

Olivia is married to Michael Chang and together they have raised 2 children and are parenting again with their nephew. An avid reader and gardener, Olivia enjoys good food, music and spending time at the beach. Her latest achievement is the birth of her granddaughter, Aurora Rose.
