Chief Kroll

Well Wishes to Retiring Police Chief

After 33 years of service with the South Orange Police Department, Police Chief, Kyle Kroll has announced his retirement as of May 1. 
The Village is forever grateful for the dedication and compassion he brought to South Orange. Though we are sad to see him go, we all wish Chief Kroll the best in his future endeavors.

SOMA on the Move- April 28, 10:30 AM
Spring is finally here!  After a long, cold winter it's time to get out, get exercise and some fresh air.  Physical Therapists from South Mountain rehab will show you how to stretch out and loosen your muscles with giveaways, reflective gear and copies of the SOMA on the Move walking maps.  You can enjoy the mapped walks on your own or with a group of friends - with masks, appropriate spacing and COVID safety in mind - or get advice on proper stretching to help you exercise better. Meet at Yale corner (Yale & Springfield Ave) to enjoy the Springfield Avenue Murals any time  between 10:30 & 11:30am

DPW Events

Residents who have prescheduled will receive a delivery of either shredded wood or humus on Tuesday, April 27.
You can schedule a delivery via our online form or by calling the Department of Public Works at 973-378-7741. Limit one product per delivery per month. Deliveries cost $50 per drop off. Please visit southorange.org for additional information.

Let's Get Twisted! ??

April 26 is National Pretzel Day! The Meadowland Park Conservancy is bringing twisted fun to South Orange on Sunday, April 25, from noon to 2 PM at the Skate House. The event will feature many ways to get “twisted” — free yoga presented by Baker Street Yoga, free activities such as Twister with your pod, a twist contest to see who has the best moves and, of course, free hot pretzels from Baker Street Market! All attendees must wear masks and keep appropriate distance from those not in their party. The fun begins at Noon and pre-registration is required for the yoga class, which starts promptly at 12:45 PM. Those who want to be part of the free class should register here, scroll down to the event on April 25.

SOPAC Scavenger Hunt

The South Orange Performing Arts Center will hold its new spring fundraiser, a scavenger hunt, during the first weekend of May, from May 1, 10 AM to May 2, 5 PM.  Players ages 5 to 105 are welcome from near and far to enjoy a weekend of fun activities that will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines. Complete missions, earn points and take the lead to victory. Missions range from text, photo or location-based instructions for participants to complete at their own pace.
