FLAG FOOTBALL OFFICIALS
Here is some basic info for anyone looking to work as a Flag Football Official in the coming year, but please feel free to call (973) 378-7754 x 2 or email skeffer@southorange.org if you have questions.
First, you must complete the online application ASAP. There is a link below.
Games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with some games also to be played on Thursday evenings. Each game is less than one hour. Two Officials are scheduled for each game - the head official, or REFEREE, and a second official, the BACK JUDGE. Officials must commit to attend training (see below) and to be on time and present for all games scheduled.
RATE OF PAY: Flag Football officials will be paid $15-20 per game, depending upon age and experience. Officials will be paid an extra $50 training pay, but only upon completion of their full season obligation (attend training, be reliable, show up on time and work all games assigned for the season).
MANDATORY TRAINING: Training is MANDATORY and will be held SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Training will include an orientation, rule review and an on-field training session. There may also be scrimmage games that afternoon to serve as a final training opportunity. SEASON SCHEDULE: Officials are expected to be available for the majority of scheduled games. Officials can be assigned 1-3 games on their assigned dates. The season is scheduled to run from Saturday, September 25 through Sunday, November 21. All game slots are one hour. Games are currently expected to be scheduled in the following time slots:
Saturdays 4:30-7:30 pm — Sundays, 3:30-7:30 pm — Thursdays, 6:00-9:00 pm If you are interested and able, please submit an online application for sports officials:

Under the direction of Tim Reynolds and staff of The Gym Maplewood, players ages 7 - 14 are welcome to sign up for our fall clinics. Players will get the chance to practice on the fundamentals of the game, learn or approve skills and warm ups.

FALL SOCCER CLINICS The South Orange Recreation Department has partnered with KickzSoccer to create a soccer clinic that is designed to develop individual ball control, technique and co-ordination to encourage confidence in possession. Areas such as: dribbling, passing, receiving, and 1v1 play will be developed during the course of the program. Have fun & improve your game this Fall season!
This program will start on Tuesdays from 5:00 - 6:30pm for ages 8- 11 and Tuesdays 6:30 - 8:00pm for ages 12 - 14 on Cameron Soccer Field. To register click on our CATALOG.
