This week in SOMA Two Towns for All Ages
Brown Bag Day Event on
Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the DeHart Community Center, 120 Burnett Avenue, Maplewood.
The Brown Bag Day Initiative is a collaboration between ADAPT, local Municipal Alliance Committees, local pharmacists, and the local police department. It is a two hour event and refreshments are provided for all participants. In general, older adults are invited to bring any prescription and over-the-counter medications for a pharmacist to review with them as part of a FREE consultation where they can ask the pharmacists any questions related to their medication, health, or other relevant health and wellness matters. We request that the older adults “clean out” their medicine cabinets of their old, unused, outdated and meds and bring them to the event for disposal.
The primary goal is to educate local older adults on their overall health and wellness, proper medication use, medication misuse, the issues with prescription medication theft along with monitoring, securing, and disposing. An additional goal is to collect any old and/or unused medication and properly dispose of them at permanent collection sites through assistance from our local police departments. We also have the opportunity for local law enforcement officials to provide presentations on a relevant topic (i.e., safety, fraud awareness, etc.). A Maplewood Police Department representative will attend.
