Free Mulch

The DPW is providing free mulch to anyone that would like to prepare their gardens for this winter season. Mulching provides benefits to your garden including preventing soil erosion, suppressing weeds, and protecting plants from temperature changes by insulating plant roots. Limited quantities available for pickup on a first come basis. It is recommended to bring containers and shovels to load the product. Facility hours Tuesday, Thursday 7 am-3:30 pm and Saturdays 8 am-12 pm.

Drought Notice

The State of New Jersey is in Drought Watch as persistent dry and hot conditions continue to stress water supplies throughout the state.
If conditions do not improve, declaration of a drought warning or a drought emergency with mandatory water use restrictions may become necessary. Voluntary conservation measures during a Drought Watch can help to avoid more serious and restrictive drought conditions.

Public Works Events

Container Day- August 20, 8 AM; 300 Walton Ave
South Orange residents are welcome to drop off household bulk items at the Public Works facility between 8 AM and 1:30 PM. Proof of residency is required and no commercial vehicles (U-Haul's/ Home Depot rental vans) are permitted on the property. Electronics, construction material, and hazardous waste will not be accepted at these events.
