River Day 2024River Day is our annual, community gathering to clean up our section of the Rahway River while celebrating environmental awareness and education. Now in our 14th year, this family friendly, volunteer, river clean up happens Sunday, May 5th, from 11am-3pm at the Skate House. To save time in line pre-registration is encouraged. For updates and Rain Date (May 12th) notifications, follow SOV and the Environmental Commission on social media @southorangevillage and @sogreenteam.

Spring Jewelry SaleThe Friends of SOPL Spring Jewelry Sale will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, May 5 from 11 AM to 4 PM and will feature a huge selection of jewelry, including hundreds of pieces of fine jewelry, designer jewelry, sterling silver pieces, brand names, precious stones, vintage pieces, earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches, men's cufflinks, watches, accessories, and much more, all priced to sell. Public Works Events Spring Cleaning Continues through May 6 - Branches: 4 inches or smaller in diameter, no roots or stumps will be collected.
- Leaves: Place leaves, yard clippings, and garden rakings in brown biodegradable paper bags (no plastic). Leaves should not be raked into the street.
Grass Clippings: DPW does not take grass clippings under any circumstances. You may contact South Orange Disposal Company to organize a pickup. You may find additional information on the Seasonal Information page.

Blood & Platelet DriveThe South Orange Police Department, partnering with RWJ Barnabas Health, invites you to participate in a blood drive scheduled for May 9 from 12 PM to 6 PM at SOPAC, 1 SOPAC Way. We extend a warm invitation to individuals capable of donating blood to join us in this noble cause. Remember, "Your droplets of blood may create an ocean of happiness." PBA Local 12 vs. SHU Women's AlumJoin us on Thursday May 9th, at 7 PM in the Walsh Gymnasium, 400 South Orange Ave.) for an electrifying showdown as the South Orange Police Department squares off against the Seton Hall Women's Alumni Basketball Team in an exhibition game for Autism Acceptance fundraising. Every dollar raised will go directly to Nassan’s Place, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and families impacted by autism in our communities. Through educational initiatives, recreational programs, and social outings, Nassan’s Place is making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by autism.
