CCR EventsDeconstructing Racism classes will run on Mondays from 7-9 p.m. through the SOMA Adult School at Columbia High School. Part one of the series is called, “Our White Supremacist Culture.” Before we can talk about deconstructing racism, we have to talk about its construction as an intentional and persistent dynamic in our society. In the first two sessions, we will discuss how racism is the manifestation of the ideology that white people are superior to people of color. We will explore how this ideology was espoused and codified in law and practice throughout the majority of American history. Integrated Art Circle: Indoor Wall Mural Installation: Join us for an innovative, eco-friendly art project led by award-winning teaching artist Roberta Melzl. This community collaboration involves transforming upcycled lawn signs into a stunning indoor wall mural. Participants, ranging from high school students to senior citizens, will paint individual panels that will be assembled into a single abstract artwork. All materials are provided, and participation is free. Registration is required as spaces are limited. Secure your spot today and be part of this creative, sustainable initiative! RSVP here.
