Code Blue

When temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing, Essex County may activate a Code Blue to protect vulnerable residents. Additional information is available at https://nj211.org/njcodeblue.

Residents seeking a warm, indoor space during normal business hours may visit South Orange Village municipal facilities, including the Baird Center (5 Mead Street) or Village Hall (76 South Orange Avenue, Suite 302), as conditions allow.

For overnight warming needs, residents may go to the South Orange Police Department Headquarters (201 South Orange Avenue), where temporary accommodations will be provided until an overnight warming location is fully open and staffed. Transportation may be arranged when necessary. Community members are encouraged to notify the Police Department if they are aware of anyone without adequate heat or shelter.

For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency assistance, contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 (Option 0).
